What is our Health and Wellness Ministry?

The Health and Wellness Ministry is a group interested in the health of our parishioners by coordinating events throughout the year. Main events include the annual health fair and the SOUL 5k run/1-mile walk. Meetings are scheduled on an every other month basis and more depending on the event planning. Health professions or other parishioners just interested in health are always welcome. We welcome new ideas for other parish events.

Health and Wellness Ministry Health Tip of the Month

Since we are in the midst of winter, staying safe is of utmost importance. Walk carefully on snowy, icy sidewalks. Be careful when shoveling snow. Take frequent breaks, avoid overexertion. If you have any shortness of breath or chest pain, do not shovel. Watch for symptons of frostbite including numbness, flushed gray, white blue or yellow skin discoloration. Do not forget your pets. Bring them indoors. Never use a stove to heat your home. Layer up to keep warm. Before going to bed turn off your space heaters and make sure your fireplace embers are out. Check smoke alarms every month. Have a carbon dioxide detector near your bedroom. When the weather is very cold, to prevent frozen pipes, open cabinet doors to let warm air circulate around the pipes. Keep thermostat at a consistent temerature. Check the Red Cross apps-they are free. It gives expert advice for everyday emergencies. Log onto www.redcross.com for more info.
