About
Adult Faith Formation Ministry provides a variety of opportunities for adult parishioners to learn about their Catholic faith and to grow in their relationships with Jesus. Whether watching video presentations, listening to in-house and guest speakers, or reading and discussing the Bible or fiction and non-fiction books, participants are encouraged to listen and learn, discuss and grow. Current programs are listed below and new programs will be announced in the weekly parish bulletin.
Summer Book Club
Join Fr. Greg Olszewski in reading and discussing the novel Bang the Drum Slowly by Mark Harris for this summer’s parish book club. This book tells the story of Bruce and Henry during a time of life circumstances that appear beyond their control. Set during the 1950s, author Harris sets his characters in motion during the off season of their professional baseball team and careers. Topics will range from friendship and trust to living life’s contradictions. Much deeper than a fly ball on a baseball field, the novel examines issues of privacy and publicity as well as fatal seriousness with comical events.
There will be 3 opportunities each week for 3 weeks to meet and discuss this book. At St. Joseph Church, the meeting will be on Monday evenings, June 1, 8 and 15, at 7:00 PM in the Holy Family Center 2&3. At St. John Neumann Church, the meetings will be on Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 PM in the meeting room and repeated on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM in the meeting room. Contact the Parish Office of the respective church to register for these meetings. Please bring your own copy of the novel.
The reading schedule is as follows: for Week One, read chapters 1-6; for Week Two, read chapters 7-12; for Week Three, read chapters 13-17.
