Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Early every summer, St. Joseph parish hosts a vacation bible school (VBS) for children going into kindergarten through fourth grade. It gives them an opportunity to experience God’s love and the joy in living in His world in a fun, interactive format. The VBS story theme changes every year. The most important message comes through the volunteers who lead and share with the children: you are lovable, you are loved, and God loves each one of us. It is a fun experience for children and leaders alike!

Schedule

The theme for 2012's Vacation Bible School is "Adventures on Promise Island".  It will be held the week of June 18 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

It is not too late for adults to join in the preparation.  We need lots of help!  Right now, we are working on the many task assignments and planning the stories, crafts, food, props and scenery.  Every year we seek adult and teen leaders to help us prepare all aspects for an exciting VBS program.  About two weeks before the program, the adult and mature teen leaders attend a brief orientation session to tell them what to expect from the program and what to do as a leader.

How it Works

VBS runs each morning for five days. Each day, the children experience a bible story, learn how it applies in daily living, play in an active, fun recreation time, assemble a craft project to remind us of the message, have a refreshment break and participate in a music session with “motion songs” related to the bible theme. On the last day toward the end of the morning there is a closing program for parents.

Registration

Our VBS program accepts registrations for those entering kindergarten or completing grade 4. Registrations will be accepted through April 30. There is a moderate charge for supplies purchased for the program. We encourage parents to volunteer to shepherd a small group through each day’s activities. It is a happy, fun, well-organized event!
