Bible Study - Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation and Bible Study (updated 8-25-22)
We are excited to offer the following opportunities for Adult Faith Formation for the fall of 2022. Please read through the following selections and fill out this registration form to let us know you intend to participate. This form should be returned to the Faith Formation Office of the church no later than August 19, 2022. Additional offerings from the Monday Morning Bible Study and the Moms of Faith will be coming soon. 

Brother Lawrence: Practice of the Presence of God

Brother Lawrence was a lay brother in a Carmelite Monastery in Paris in the 1600s. He worked in the kitchen and is known for dedicating all of his tasks, however menial, to the glory of God. In this study we will read and discuss the letters, coversations and spiritual maxims that Brother Lawrence is know for. This class will meet on Sunday mornings, Sept. 11 through Dec. 18th, from 9:15-10:20am in HFC 1. We will use the book, "Brother Lawrence: The Practice of the Presence of God and the Spiritual Maxims" (Digireads.com Publishing, 2016). You can order this book through amazon.com. Conversations in American Catholicism
Join us on Mondays, Sept. 12 through Oct. 3rd from 7:00-8:30pm in HFC2&3 as Fr Joe Mamich presents Conversations in American Catholicism. Using Chapter 3 of Jay P. Dolan's book, "In Search of an American Catholicism: A History of Religion and Culture in Tension" (Oxford Univeristy Press, November 2003) we will explore four topics where American culture and Catholicism intersect: Democracy; Immmigration and Nationalism; Theology; and The Role of Women in Society and the Church. There will be a presentation, small group discussion and large group discussion. Materials will be provided. 

Understanding and Living Out Catholic Social Teaching in Our Time
The Catholic church teaches us about building a just society and living lives of holiness in the modern world. This class will meet on Thursday evenings, from 7:00-8:30pm, from October 6th through November 17th, in HFC1 and via Zoom. We will use the book, "A Concise Guide to Catholic Social Teaching" (third edition, 2019) by Kevin E. McKenna. You may order this book at amazon.com. Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John
Join the Monday Morning Bible Study group as they explore the Gospel of John with the program from Ascension Press. This group meets exclusively online via Zoom. This study will begin on Monday, September 26th and will run for 8 weeks. Each session will include large group discussion, a video and small group discussion. You have the option of ordering the the program with a book yourself online from www.ascensionpress.com; ordering the program on your own without the printed book from www.ascensionpress.com; or ordering the book through the study facilitator, Art Leonard.  Art will be placing his order on September 5th.
